China Multimodal Transport – Connecting Inland Locations Via Water Transportation

Yangtze River System the Largest Inland Waterway
Marine transport by inland waterways provide a very cost effective means of reaching into inland locations – offering considerable cost advantage over rail or truck transport, particularly over long-distance movements.

The Yangtze River system is by far the largest inland waterway with a navigable length of about 2,800 km. China has a long history of using this extensive waterway network of rivers and lakes, linked over the years through strategic canal construction. In China approximately 9 percent of all cargo transportation, representing over 1 billion tons, is transported by Inland Water Transport.
