Employees at the Baltic Container Terminal in Gdansk have been on strike for six days.  500 are on a rotational strike.  The employees are demanding a raise of 400 zlotys a month, and management is willing to give them an additional 200 zlotys.  BCT Chairman Johannes de Jong has said “All the efforts of BCT management have focused on trying to explain the trade unions and employees that blackmail through strike shall not be accepted”

Plans have been made for a wind park in Alveston.  Three wind turbines, each 210 feet tall, will generate power for 5,000 homes.  According to the article “The turbines - fitted with blades almost 40ft long - would generate approximately 16.75 GWh of power each year, offsetting thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide over a lifespan of up to 30 years.”

Fourteen retailers from the European Retail Round Table, including Wal-Mart, H&M, Marks & Spencer, Tesco and others have agreed to reduce energy consumption.  They want to reduce their consumption by 20% per square meter in their commercial properties.  They are all going to work towards exceeding the EU’s goal of having 20% of energy come from renewable sources by 2020.

This is a big step in reducing their carbon footprint and shows a desire to help the environment.
