Parcel Shipping Costs to Rise

UPS 2008 rate increases have been released for Ground and Ground Hundredweight services. Do you know how the increase will impact your parcel spend?

UPS and FedEx have both announced the increases for 2008 published rates which will be an average of 4.9 percent increase on all shipments. 

How will the increases affect your transportation spend?  Benchmarking your current rates and assessing your contract will help you to determine if you are ready for the increases.  Negotiating the contract for long term with published rate increase in mind will alleviate any high increases.

UPS announced that it will be raising its ground and ground hundred weight service rates by an average of 4.9 percent in 2008.  This announcement came after FedEx stated that the air rate will rise by an average 4.9 percent.  UPS will be using the same increase for air express service and US origin international shipments as FedEx.

UPS also announced increases in accessorial charges

  • Delivery Area surcharge for Residential and commercial increase $0.1 Remote area surcharge in areas of Hawaii and Alaska

  • Residential surcharges increase

  • Address correction charges increase by $1.00
