UPS announced that it will be raising its ground and ground hundred weight service rates by an average of 4.9 percent in 2008. This announcement came after FedEx stated that the air rate will rise by an average 4.9 percent. UPS will be using the same increase for air express service and US origin international shipments as FedEx. UPS also announced increases in accessorial charges - Delivery Area surcharge for Residential and commercial increase $0.1 Remote area surcharge in areas of Hawaii and Alaska
