| November 16, 2007 | | The first integrated road network linking from Singapore to China will be completed early 2008 | Countries in Asia have high logistics spending on domestic goods due to the absence of homogenous and well-connected road transportation network. Currently, the countries in Asia spend 20 to 30 percent on logistics compared to the typical 10 percent in the United States and the countries in Europe. The TNT Asia Road Network is the first integrated network to link 125 cities across 6 countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and China). The first two phases of the project have been completed, and the network currently serves Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. The last phase, linking Danang, Vietnam to Naning, China, is set to be completed by early 2008. Alan Miu, the general manager at TNT Express Worldwide (Thailand), stated that the network “aims to offer lower cost and faster than air and sea freight to customers across Asia.” With the completion of the network, companies will benefit from a substantial reduction in transportation cost and a significant improvement on service levels. | | |
