| November 27, 2007 | | Shanghai Pudong International Airport will handle 6 million tons of freight with the third terminal and two additional runways in operation by 2015 | Shanghai Airport Authority announced yesterday that the Pudong International Airport will build a third passenger terminal and two additional runways by 2015. The UPS International Air Hub is set to be in operation by 2008, and the DHL Express North Asia Hub by 2010. With the completion of the two runways in 2008, the airport can handle 4.2 million tons of freight per year. The third terminal and two additional runways are set to be completed by 2015 and it will boost the annual capacity to 6 million tons of fright. Shanghai Pudong International Airport is the world’s sixth busiest airport with 2.5 million tons of freight in 2006. With the Olympics and the World Expo ahead, Wu Nianzu, chairman of Shanghai Airport Authority, stated that “the airport will play a more important role. To expand the airport is not a local strategy, but strategy to serve the development of the Yangtze River Delta region and the whole nation.” | | |
