| November 30, 2007 | | The Barbours Cuter Terminal has handled more containers this year than last year. This is surprising due to the opening of another terminal in Houston, the Bayport Terminal | With opening of the Bayport Terminal in Houston Texas, the volume was expected to decline in the Barbours Cut terminal, the original terminal in Houston. However, the Barbours Cut terminal has handled a record amount of cargo this year. They will handle more containers in 2007 than in 2006. Most of the freight handled this year is from Asia. Jim Edmonds, chairman of the port commission, said “the port authority this year will exceed its expectations in most cargo categories. But steel will be down compared to last year, which saw a 25-year high in steel trade recorded.” Currently CMA-CGM, a French shipping line, is operating out of the new terminal and another shipping line will start there early next year. | | |
