Coca-Cola changes glass bottle in effort to be green

Coca-Cola cuts its carbon emissions by decreasing the amount of glass used in its bottles.

Global companies are working on improving their carbon footprint, even by modifying their core product.

Coca-Cola’s glass bottle, designed in 1916, has been re-designed to reduce the amount of glass used in the bottle by 20 percent and therefore improve their carbon footprint. The bottle will have a similar shape, but will be 13mm shorter and .1mm wider. The new bottle will decrease glass consumption by 3500 metric tons and carbon emissions by 2200 metric tons a year.

Gareth Snowdon, a supply chain project manager, said “the group is so committed to reducing its environmental impact that ‘we’re even adapting our most precious asset, the glass Coca-Cola contour bottle’.”
