California Ports Facing Stiffer Anti-Pollution Measures

California is trying to reduce Carbon emissions with cargo ships and trucks by approving regulations.

California regulators are hoping to approve measures designed to reduce emissions from cargo ships and trucks. Part of the plan would require ships to use land-based electric power while at berth.

If approved, California would be the first state to impose such requirements on the maritime and trucking industries.

The regulations would apply to vessels calling at California's busiest ports, including Los Angeles-Long Beach, Port Hueneme in Ventura County, San Diego, Oakland, and San Francisco.

According to one analyst, if the measures are approved there's a good chance that other U.S. ports would enact similar regulations.
