Modest Gains Expected for Air Cargo

Fluctuating fuel prices and currency exchanges are leading to uncertainty in the air cargo market.

Forecasters have again revised their figures for the air cargo industry because of increased volatility in the marketplace.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) says the annual average growth rate for international air cargo volumes will be 4.8 percent from 2008 through 2011, down slightly from previous estimates and lower than the 6.2 annual average growth rate seen between 2002 and 2006.

While industry forecasts are always subject to change, analysts caution that there's particular uncertainty in the marketplace right now due to fluctuating fuel prices and currency exchanges
