| December 20, 2007 | | There is currently an overcapacity of cars produced in Europe. A new approach to make a car to order in 5 days is being tested through June 2008. | There is currently an overcapacity of cars in Europe. Every year 22 million cars are produced and only 15 million are sold. There is a push to change the ways cars are made to a custom made car which can be produced in 5 days. According to project coordinator Rene Esser of ThyssenKrupp Automotive: “The only way to ensure the economic survival of organizations, establishments and employees in the European automotive industry is to escape, in the long run, the competitive pressure from cheap labor countries. ILIPT tackles both the conceptual and the practical aspects of the automotive industry’s radical new concept: the delivery to the customer of a bespoke vehicle only several days after placing the order.” This project will run through June 2008 and includes partners such as BMW, Siemens and TRW, as well as SMEs and universities. | | |
