Port to open in 2020 in Dalian, China

A new shipping and logistics center in Dalian to be in operation by 2020

Dalian will be transformed into a major harbor with a new shipping and logistics center ready for operation by 2020. Dalian is located in the eastern Liaoning Province of Northeast China, with close proximity to major port cities such as Busan in the Republic of Korea and Yokohama in Japan. Additionally, it is one of the most heavily developed industrial areas in China with convenient transportation, open economy, and less regular sea routes linking to other international ports.

Dalian mayor Xia Deren has proposed the construction of a 50 square kilometers free trade zone composed of China, the ROK, and Japan. Liaoning Province will also begin to streamline the port resources along its coast with more investments in road, rail and air facilities.

The Dalian harbor will handle 500 million tons of cargo per year which is equivalent to 20 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). This will boost the total annual port capacity in Liaoning to one billion tons which is equivalent to 35 million TEUs.
