| January 09, 2008 | | An independent distributor in Ireland will replace 100 diesel power commercial vehicles with the battery powered vans and trucks saving the environment 760,000kg of carbon emission annually. | Smith Electric Vehicles is in partnership with an independent distributor in Ireland to replace 100 diesel powered commercial vehicles with the leading edge Newton and Edison vehicles, battery powered vans and trucks with zero carbon emission. Seven hundred and sixty thousand kilograms of carbon dioxide will be saved annually. Smith electric Vehicles’ Sales Director Kevin Harkin stated: “there are tens of thousands of vans and trucks in Ireland that spend their entire working lives in congested urban areas. This stop-star environment is when the diesel engine is at its least efficient and most polluting, making a compelling argument for replacing these vehicles with our zero emission products.” The Newton and Edison vehicles are excellent for intra-city applications. Since the launch in early 2007, the Smith Newton vehicles are already utilized by Starbucks, DHL, TK Maxx, the Royal Mail, and Marks & Spencer. Edison vehicles are also utilized by big companies, such as Sainsbury’s Online, TNT Express, Balfour Beatty, and A-Plant. Both vehicles can go up to 150 miles when fully charged. Additionally, the regenerative breaking system builds up the battery power when the vehicle is going slow or stopped. | | |
