Pacific Union rail line shut down due to landslide

Tracks covered by a landslide will take weeks to clear which is significantly longer than the expected days.

The rail line outside of Oakridge, OR has been covered by a landslide which occurred this past weekend. It was predicted that it would only take a few days to clear the debris and fix the tracks, but it was learned that it will actually take a few weeks. Zoe Richmond, Union Pacific spokeswoman, stated “We just got there and it’s a lot bigger than we thought.” She stated that two sections of the tracks were affected, one of which is 3,000 feet long.

Until the tracks are back running, freight trains which run between Portland and Roseville, CA will be rerouted using BNSF tracks which go through Bend.
