YRC Worldwide to close 27 USF hubs and cut 1,100 jobs

YRC is reducing its workforce by 1,100, closing 27 plants, and reducing its fleet by 600 trucks and 1200 trailers to help improve profitability.

YRC will be cutting 1,100 jobs in the restructuring of regional LTL carriers.  They will be closing 27 service centers (hubs).  Currently YRC has 60,000 employees.  As part of the restructuring, YRC will be reducing its fleet by 600 trucks and 1,200 trailers.  The reductions affect the USF brand.  Twenty one of USF Reddaway’s hubs and six of USF Hollands hubs will be shut down.

The reduction of the USF brand was done to help make YRC more profitable.  Chief Executive Bill Zollars said “the company expects cash proceeds from property sales of between $8 million and $10 million.”  YRC also has Yellow, Roadway, and New Penn LTL companies which are under the YRC Worldwide.
