| February 19, 2008 | | Supply Chain challenges has slowed the production of the 787 Dreamliner; however, Boeing is in the final production stages of their second flight-test airplane. Has Boeing improved their supply chain? | Reported on February 18th Boeing has started the final assembly on its second flight test 787 Dreamliner. This is the second of six flight-test airplanes, but is the fourth to hit the production line. The other 2 airplanes are used “for static and fatigue testing.” Steve Westby, vice-president of 787 Final Assembly and Change Incorporation stated “We’ve received significantly less ‘travelled work’ on this airplane. The degree of completeness of sections at the partners is significantly better than Airplane 1. Condition of assembly is much better and we will see continued improvements on the condition of each assembly shipped. All this helps to bring us back into alignment with the original design of our production system.” Boeing’s supply chain has been a key issue for the delay of the 787 Dreamliner. Hopefully the supply chain is becoming more effective and Boeing can keep their current delivery timelines. | | |
