Denmark increases Renewable Energy Target

Denmark government increases the use of renewable energy from 15 percent to 20 percent by the end of 2011

The Danish government is committed to increase the use of renewable energy to 20 percent by 2011. To achieve the new targets, the government “calls for better subsidies for developing energy from wind, biomass and biogas, and for two new wind parks to be built off the Scandinavian country’s coast by 2012.” In addition, hydrogen fuel cars will be exempt and electric cars will remain tax-free until 2012.

Climate and Energy Minister Connie Hedegaard expressed “The creation of a stable framework for investments in renewable energy is in everyone’s interest.”
