Port of Miami priority on increasing cargo business

Port of Miami suffered a second-year decline of 9.5 percent in container cargo volume in 2007

Port Everglades surpassed the Port of Miami for container cargo volume in 2007. The cause is due to traffic jams in downtown Miami to and from the port. There is a proposed tunnel to bypass downtown traffic and connect the port and nearby interstate highways. This will hopefully bring cargo volume back to the Port of Miami.  The final agreement should be signed this year and the tunnel will be in operation in 2013.
