Guangdong reduces power supply to certain industries

Guangdong expects the most serious power shortage since the late 1970s

Li Xiangming, deputy director of economic and trade commission of Guangdong provinces, expects up to 12 million kWh electricity load gap during peak consumption periods this year. Residential areas and public utilities and services, such as hospitals, schools, airports, railway stations, radio and TV stations, harbor and financial organizations, will be given the priority for the power.

The province has prepared a contingency plan to prepare for the shortage. The high-consumption industries will be suspended with electricity if the electricity load gap reaches 8 million kWh. Other sectors and all government departments are also required to reduce energy consumption.

The earlier severe snow storm has worsen the condition. Guangdong has lost more than 6.3 million kWh due to damaged electricity substation and transmission lines. The electricity supply from southwestern China will not resume until the second half of the year.
