Good air quality during the Olympics

China fulfills its commitment to ensure a good air quality during the Olympic

China has committed for good air quality at the Olympics bid seven years ago. In the past few years, China has closely monitored the major pollution indices daily and serious actions are taken to penalize major polluters. A total of 120 billion yuan has been devote to improve air quality which increased the number of “blue sky” days from 100 in 1998 to 246 in 2007.  

Vice Minister in charge of the National Development and Reform Commission Xie Zhenhua pledged at the press conference that “China will take effective measures to control greenhouse gas emissions while developing economy.”
