| August 25, 2008 | | Freight Division of UPS announces the improvement of over 1,200 traffic lanes | Following through on a promise made in May of this year, UPS said this week it has improved the transit times on more than 1,200 traffic lanes in the Midwest, Northeast, and Mid-Atlantic regions of the U.S. For example, the LTL (less-than-truckload) carrier will now provide two-day lanes from Chicago to Dallas, Boston to St. Louis, and Philadelphia to Miami as well as overnight shipments from Cincinnati to Memphis and Columbus to Charlotte. The changes will affect the entire country in the respect that cities in California, Arizona, and Utah will now experience transit times of 2-3 days from these originating cities. UPS Freight spokesman Ira Rosenfeld was interviewed about the recent events and had this to say: “As we improve the network’s velocity we are allowing our customers to better serve their customers. What you are seeing here is UPS’s strong nationwide network getting that much stronger. It is a network enhancement project that had gone on for the past three years and continues. We will never stop looking to improve our product offering.” UPS has improved transit times on more than 10,000 lanes in the last 18 months including the most recent adjustments, all of which are backed up by their on-time performance guarantees, which promise shippers on-time delivery with no chance of additional costs. UPS says the guarantee also promises customers can request a waiver of their freight charges if their shipment doesn’t arrive on time. | | |
