Will Munich be the logistics hub of Europe?

The Munich airport opened a new cargo facility for four freight forwarders this past weekend.

The new terminal in Munich airport opened this past weekend. From 1992 to 2006 the freight handled has gone from 100,000 tons to over 400,000 tons. According to Walter Vill, CFO and deputy CEO of FMG, "Over the years, a European-level logistics centre has taken shape here that can confidently face any comparison at the national or international level."

The opening symbolizes the end of phase one of the expansion which included 15,000 square meters of space for freight forwarders. The facility has over 50 dock doors. Four freight forwarders will be operating out of the new facility. The old facility will still be used and currently has capacity.

A second phase can add an additional 15,000 square meters.
