ProLogis expands its operation in China with new facilities

Expansion consist of new facilities in ProLogis Park Hongqiao and ProLogis Park Yantian

ProLogis, the world’s largest owner, manager, and developer of distribution facilities, announced the construction of new facilities to expand its existing capacity in China.

ProLogis will construct 2, 2-story inventory buildings, adding 920,000 square feet (85,500 square meters), in the ProLogis Park Hongqiao. ProLogis Park Hongqiao is located 7 kilometers from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. The airport is China’s 5th largest airport by cargo volume and handles approximately 360,000 tons every year.

In addition, ProLogis will construct 2, 3-story export bonded facilities, adding 751,000 square feet (69,000 square meters), in the ProLogis Park Yantian. ProLogis Park Yantian is located at the Yantian Port, the world’s 4th largest port by volume. In 2006, the port handled more than 18.5 million TEUs.

ProLogis’ president of China operations Ming Mei stated that “furthering our leading airport- and seaport-related position is a central aspect of ProLogis’ development strategy in China. We expect the strategic location of our new parks in Shanghai and Shenzhen to attract leading multinational manufacturers, retailers and third-party logistics providers, and we look forward to serving their distribution facilities requirements there.”
