The world’s top carbon credit generator

After a recent contract with Finland, Credit Suisse International and British firm Arreon Carbon signed a contract with China to purchase carbon credits by 2012

Credit Suisse International and Arreon Carbon will invest in emissions-cutting projects over the next two years. With the cooperation of the State Development and Investment Corporation, the two firms will cut carbon emissions at a highly-efficiency coal-burning plant. They will also invest in three wind power and a hydropower projects in provinces of Gansu and Hebei.

Eight million tones of carbon credits, which is currently trading at over 20 euros per tone, will be generated by 2012. They will be used to meet their domestic quotas under the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism.
