Truckers have 36 to 70 hour wait time at Poland’s borders

The customs workers are protesting their low wages by not showing up to work. Long lines of truckers have formed at the border crossings. As of today the situation is starting to improve and will hopefully be back to normal in 3 days.

Truckers are losing 1 million Euros (1.48 million dollars) a day in Poland.  Custom workers are not on strike, but are taking days off and sick days to slow down the borders in protest of their wages.  The custom workers are part of the public-sector and they want their wages to be in line with the private sector wages.  The Poland Union of Road Transport Employers, in protest of the custom workers, threatened to blockade cities in Poland, including Warsaw.

As of today, the lines have improved at the borders.  According to a Polish radio: “roughly 50% of staff has returned to work at the checkpoints in Dorohusk and Hrebenne on the border with Ukraine.”  Currently there is a 36 – 48 hour wait to cross the border.  It is predicted that it will take at least another three days for the borders to return to normal.
