Increasing diesel fuel prices will cost truckers over $135 billion in 2008

With the Diesel rates increasing, the ATA announced that the expenses to the trucking industry will be significantly higher than last year.

According to the American Trucking Association (ATA) the trucking industry will pay over $135 billion in fuel in 2008.  The price of diesel fuel has continued to increase in 2008, and this is affected the truckers.  The projection is significantly higher than the $112.6 billion spent in 2007.

According to the article the Department of Energy stated “the average price per gallon for diesel fuel is now $3.974 per gallon, putting the $4 per gallon possibility within close reach, an even clearer sign of hard times and a troubled economy for shippers and carriers alike. This recent tally represents a 69.4 cent gain in the average price per diesel gallon in the last four weeks.

With the increasing costs of fuel, the fuel surcharge continues to increase.  This will affect everyone because the carriers will pass the increasing costs of fuel onto their customers.
