China's E-Port Project Expedites the Flow of Goods from Source to Market

E-Port System Significantly Shortens the Trading Process (Roughly 24 to 48 hours)
China Customs plans to implement the e-clearance system for all import/export companies in China. Currently however, only a select few priviledged companies are taking part in the initiative undertaken by China Customs to speed up Customs clearance, with the H2000 system at the core of this electronic Customs system. The e-port system shortens the time for importing raw materials and exporting finished goods to 24 to 48 hours, as opposed to 7 to 15 days under the old system. The expansion of the E-port system will bring greater efficiency, lower costs, reduced cycle times, and increased transparency and security for global companies sourcing in China.

Companies developing their China supply chain strategies need to assess the potential problem areas under H2000, as well as the most recent changes in 2005. Research into the best practices of companies successfully switching from H883 to H2000 will help companies maximize the benefits offered by this valuable tool provided by China Customs.

Another important question is when will China Customs implement the e-clearance policies for the average importers and exporters in China? How much time do they have to prepare for the changes? Can companies take action today to expedite the process?
