Finnish Foreign Ministry signed a contract to purchase approximately 175,549 Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) through the solar cooker project in northern China

Households in 31 villages in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in northern <country-region w:st="on" /><place w:st="on" />China</place /></country-region /> will receive 19,000 solar cookers for free. A repair facility will also be set up to provide free repair and replacement if necessary. It will not only reduce the greenhouse emissions significantly by eliminating coal use, it will also provide a clean, economical and convenient way of daily cooking and water-boiling. This project is expected to generate approximately 175,549 CERs over the period of 2008-2012. <country-region w:st="on" />China</country-region /> and <country-region w:st="on" /><place w:st="on" />Finland</place /></country-region /> are both participants in the Kyoto Protocol which aim to fight global warming. Each participant is required to meet their emission targets through the number of emission credits, also known as the Certified Emission Reductions (CERs).
