Swedish truck makers are taken actions to reduce carbon emission

Volvo and Scania remain the pioneers in the truck manufacturing industry to reduce carbon emission. Volvo plans to reduce emission between the inter-company deliveries. Actions include reducing fuel consumption, improving logistics and increasing the use of biofuels. In addition, Volvo plans to launch 100 percent clean factories. Two Volvo plants are currently undergoing transformation to eco-friendly factories.

Scania plans to improve their production productivity which will lead to 6 to 8 percent per year in carbon emission reduction. Training courses are also provided to educate truck drivers on fuel efficient driving, which will result a 10 to 15 percent petrol consumption reduction. Hasse Johansson, head of Scania’s research and development, stated “we devoted 50 to 60 percent of our three billion kronor (319-milion-euro, 472-million-dollor) development budget to enginer research. The truck industry is one of the industries that invests most in environmental improvements.”
