French to Team with FedEx for TGV Parcels in Europe

The CAREX project (Cargo Rail Express) is trying to get air cargo to be moved by train due to a lower carbon emission.

High speed TGV trains are going to be used in <country-region w:st="on" /><place w:st="on" />France</place /></country-region /> to move mail and packages around the country.  These trains travel 300 kilometers per hour (186 miles per hour).  This is all part of the CAREX project (Cargo Rail Express), which hopes for these trains to be operational within 4 years.  FedEx will work with the French post to set up and use these trains.  Currently FedEx has 50 cargo planes coming in and out of the airport in <city w:st="on" /><place w:st="on" />Paris</place /></city />.  They hope that some of the closer locations will be able to be transported by train.A train has a better carbon footprint than a jet.  According to the article “A large cargo aircraft consumes more than 20 liters of kerosene and a truck about one liter of diesel fuel to carry one ton of cargo 100 kilometers (62 miles).
