By reducing the speed of the governors on the tractor fleet from 65 to 62 miles per hour, Con-Way believes they will reduce their fuel consumption by 3.2 million gallons a year and their carbon emissions by 72 million pounds a year.

Con-Way freight has announced that they are reducing the speed governors on its 8,400-tractor fleet.  They say that the lower speeds will reduce carbon emissions and conserve fuel.  The adjustment is from 65 mph down to 62 mph.  It is believed that they will reduce their diesel fuel by 3.2 million gallons a year.  This will reduce their carbon emission by 72 million pounds of carbon a year.   This level of emission reduction is equivalent to removing 7,300 cars from the road.  John G. Labrie, Con-way Freight president, stated “Freight transportation, by its nature, is a significant consumer of carbon-based energy resources.
